GENDER BASED VIOLENCE (GBV) PREVENTION AND RESPONSE

COMMUNIty FORWARD: Promoting safer, Happier, and Healthier relationships, families and communities

Resilience-building and community-led GBV protection services for Salvadorans affected by natural disasters and violence

It's estimated that there are over 10,000 victims of human trafficking in Central America each year. Alight is working alongside local partners to prevent human trafficking.

PREVENTION

ESTABLISHING AND STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY-BASED ACTIVISM

Alight’s prevention approach is centered on establishing and strengthening community- based activism for GBV prevention. The prevention strategy uses the SASA! Methodology, an evidence-based community approach toolkit, developed by Raising Voices, that encourages a culture of non-violence through community dialogues on promoting safer, happier and healthier relationships, families and communities. Other activities include radio programming, use of provocative communication materials, and commemoration of GBV awareness days.

RESPONSE

COMPASSIONATE SURVIVOR-CENTERED CARE

Alight’s GBV response approach is centered on a compassionate survivor-centered case management. Key activities include case management, timely and appropriate referrals, dignity kit distribution, provision of psychosocial support services through individual and group counseling, and “drop in” social and recreational activities based on the interests of the women and girls utilizing the Catholic nuns’ safe spaces.
